Boxer's Miracle Comeback: Life-Threatening Illness to Pro Ring

Reuben Muston, a 20-year-old boxer from Reading, has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining his professional boxing license. This achievement is particularly remarkable as he is believed to be the first boxer worldwide to turn professional following a bone marrow transplant. Muston's journey began in 2022 when he was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia after a nosebleed sustained during a national final fight persisted for 24 hours. He underwent intensive treatment, including a stem cell transplant from his father, Danny, alongside chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Two and a half years post-treatment, Muston made a triumphant return to the ring, clinching gold at the national championships. He expressed immense satisfaction upon receiving his professional license, seeing it as the beginning of a new chapter. The British Boxing Board of Control granted his license after he passed a rigorous medical examination.

Muston has also become an advocate for the Anthony Nolan Trust, urging young people aged 16 to 30 to join the stem cell register. He emphasizes the ease of the procedure and its life-saving impact. Currently training rigorously six days a week, Muston is focused on securing a promotional deal to commence his professional boxing career.
