Boxer Khelif: IOC Tests OK, Not Politics
5 Feb
Summary
- Boxer Imane Khelif agrees to genetic testing if IOC administers it.
- World Boxing mandates sex testing, Khelif previously barred from competition.
- Khelif asserts she is a woman, not transgender, and seeks justice.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif has expressed her willingness to undergo genetic testing for competition eligibility, provided the International Olympic Committee (IOC) conducts the tests. Khelif, a gold medalist in the women's welterweight division at the 2024 Paris Games, found herself at the center of a gender eligibility dispute.
The International Boxing Association had previously disqualified her from the 2023 World Championships following sex chromosome tests. World Boxing, set to oversee Olympic boxing from 2028, announced mandatory sex testing for all its competitors in May.
Khelif has appealed World Boxing's decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), emphasizing her acceptance of IOC-administered testing. She stated, "I'm not transgender. I'm a woman. I want to live my life."
The 26-year-old boxer is hopeful for a just outcome from CAS, asserting her belief that justice is on her side and vowing not to surrender until it is achieved.
