Blue Jays Pitcher Nearing Return After Surgery

Blue Jays right-hander Trey Yesavage is on the cusp of returning to the team after undergoing surgery for left knee inflammation. Yesavage participated in a pitching session on Friday, which manager John Schneider indicated went well. This successful session could position Yesavage to rejoin the team as early as Sunday or Monday.

His potential return on Sunday would place him in line to pitch in the final game of a critical series against the Rangers. Alternatively, if held back until Monday, he would start the series against the Orioles in Baltimore. Yesavage landed on the injured list on August 5th and had surgery on August 11th.

He made a recent rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo, allowing two runs and throwing 34 pitches. The focus of that outing was his physical response, with his fastball velocity near his season average. Yesavage has a 5-5 record with a 3.65 ERA and 91 strikeouts this season.

In other injury news, pitcher Shane Bieber is scheduled to throw off the mound on Saturday as he recovers from teres major inflammation. While a return during the regular season appears unlikely, Bieber continues his rehabilitation process. The team hopes he can build enough strength to be an option if they reach the postseason.
