Ohtani, who had reached base nine times and smashed four extra-base hits in the Dodgers' Game 3 victory, took the mound just over 17 hours later. However, he was outpitched by Bieber, the 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner who returned from Tommy John surgery in late August. Bieber issued three walks but repeatedly got out of trouble, stranding four runners before being relieved in the sixth.

The Blue Jays finally broke through against Ohtani in the third inning, with Guerrero's majestic seventh homer of the postseason giving them a 2-1 lead. Toronto then added four more runs in the seventh to chase Ohtani and take control of the game.
