Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals Negotiate Blockbuster Player Swap
1 Nov
Summary
- Sanju Samson likely to join Delhi Capitals, Tristan Stubbs to Rajasthan Royals
- KKR keen on acquiring KL Rahul, but struggle to find suitable trade
- Rajasthan Royals also approached Chennai Super Kings for Ravindra Jadeja

As the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season approaches, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are engaged in a significant player trade negotiation. According to reliable sources, the two franchises are close to finalizing a deal that would see Sanju Samson move from RR to DC, while Tristan Stubbs would join the Rajasthan unit.
Samson, who has been a key player for RR, is reportedly clear on his desire to leave the franchise. Both DC and RR have been in discussions, exploring various trade options. While DC are keen to acquire Samson, they were unwilling to part with any of their core players. Even the possibility of a swap involving KL Rahul was discussed, but DC ultimately decided to retain the player who was their standout performer last season.
On the other hand, RR are interested in bringing Stubbs on board, but they had also asked DC for an additional uncapped player as part of the deal. However, this request was not entertained by the Delhi franchise, and it now appears highly likely that Samson will be donning the DC colors in the upcoming IPL season.
In recent months, RR have also had discussions with other franchises regarding Samson, including an approach to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a potential swap involving Ravindra Jadeja. However, those talks did not materialize beyond the initial interest.
Elsewhere, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) continue to pursue KL Rahul, with the new head coach Abhishek Nayar and the franchise's top management eager to have him on board. The challenge for KKR lies in finding a suitable trade asset that would excite the DC management, as they are focused on investing in youth and players they can rely on in the long term.
