Ishwari Pande, a 17-year-old swimmer, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the world's first completely blind individual to successfully swim across the Palk Strait. This remarkable feat, accomplished on Monday, was met with immense celebration upon her return to Nagpur on Thursday.
Pande navigated the challenging 10km sea crossing, enduring strong currents, shifting tides, and encounters with jellyfish with exceptional bravery. Her journey was supported by her coach, Sanjat Batwe, and a dedicated team, ensuring her safety and momentum through a strict nutritional regimen and expert guidance.
Upon arrival in Nagpur, Pande was greeted with a jubilant victory parade, including an open jeep and a ride on horseback. The reception, organized by the Shark Aquatic Club and attended by hundreds of students, fitness enthusiasts, and relatives, showcased the city's pride in her accomplishment. Pande expressed profound gratitude to her supporters, coach, Krida Bharti, and the Betiya Shakti Foundation.
Her coach, Batwe, received significant accolades for his role in training Pande for this international-level achievement. Ishwari Pande now aspires to compete in international competitions, aiming to bring further pride to India.
