Paul Innocent, a golfer registered blind, is heading to Columbus, Georgia, to compete in the US Blind Golf Championships. This event takes place in the same state where the US Masters is being held. Innocent, who lost 70% of his vision in one eye and all of it in the other, was diagnosed with Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy in 2023. The condition caused a rapid decline in his sight, forcing him to cease his work as an electrician. Golf, a lifelong passion, has become his sanctuary during this challenging period. He found support through the England & Wales Blind Golf charity after relocating to north Norfolk in 2024. His guide, Rob, plays a crucial role in his game, assisting him with aiming. Innocent previously achieved success at the British Blind Open in Scotland, securing a category title and a runner-up position in the overall tournament, bolstering his confidence for the upcoming US competition. Club members at Sheringham Golf Club have also provided financial and clothing support for his journey.
