Bills Target Texas A&M Speed Rusher Howell

The Buffalo Bills are actively reshaping their defense, with the NFL Draft expected to bring further enhancements. Despite recent signings, the team could still benefit from additional pressure on opposing quarterbacks. NFL analyst Bruce Feldman has projected the Bills to select Cashius Howell, a speed rusher from Texas A&M, in the draft.

Howell, standing 6-2 and weighing 253 pounds, possesses remarkable speed and agility, clocking a 1.58-second 10-yard split at the combine. While lacking ideal arm length, his ability to bend and rush the passer has drawn comparisons to a younger Von Miller. Howell recorded 11.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss in his most recent college season.

Buffalo has also seen changes in its defensive coaching staff. Following the departure of former head coach Sean McDermott and defensive coordinator Bobby Babich, Jim Leonhard was hired as the new defensive coordinator. Leonhard has expressed his vision for an aggressive, attacking defense focused on creating turnovers and forcing offenses to react.

Howell is anticipated to be a late first-round pick, with some evaluators noting his arm size as a potential concern. However, his exceptional quickness and bend are seen as significant assets that could translate to NFL success, potentially providing the Bills with much-needed pass-rushing juice.
