Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia Racing has been unexpectedly placed in Q1 for the MotoGP Grand Prix of Brazil, a situation attributed to unresolved technical "issues." Bezzecchi reported a significant drop in performance during Friday practice, ending the session in 20th position, more than two seconds off the pace. The Italian rider stated that while his morning session was positive, the afternoon brought difficulties that the engineering team is actively investigating.
Rainfall during the practice session, combined with challenges in achieving adequate tire temperature, further complicated matters for Bezzecchi. Aprilia race manager Paolo Bonora suggested that a lack of confidence in mixed conditions might be contributing to Bezzecchi's struggles to push and generate heat in the tires. Despite the current ranking, the team remains optimistic about understanding the problem overnight and improving for Saturday's qualifying.
This setback means Bezzecchi, the Thailand Grand Prix winner, must now navigate the first part of qualifying to secure a starting position within the top four rows of the grid. The team's focus remains on diagnosing and resolving the technical gremlins that have impacted his weekend so far.
