Bengals' Preseason Woes: Longest Winless Streak in Franchise History
18 Aug
Summary
- Chicago Bears trounce Buffalo Bills 38-0 in preseason game
- Bengals have 7-game winless streak in preseason, tying franchise record
- Bengals' worst preseason loss was 34-3 to Lions in 2011, a playoff season

As of August 18th, 2025, the NFL preseason has been filled with some unexpected results. In a particularly jarring outcome, the Chicago Bears trounced the Buffalo Bills 38-0 in a Sunday night matchup. This tied the 2022 Philadelphia Eagles' 48-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins for the second-largest margin of victory in a preseason game since at least 2015.
The news is not all positive for the Cincinnati Bengals, however. The team currently finds itself in the midst of a seven-game winless streak in the preseason, which ties the longest such streak in franchise history. The Bengals' worst preseason loss during this period came last year, when they suffered a 27-3 road defeat to the Bears. Interestingly, four of the Bengals' five double-digit preseason losses since 2019 occurred in seasons where they did not reach the playoffs.
The Bengals' all-time worst preseason loss came in 2011, when they were trounced 34-3 by the Detroit Lions in the first game of the Andy Dalton-A.J. Green era. That season, however, the Bengals went on to make the playoffs. There have been four other Bengals preseason losses by at least 27 points, but none of those occurred in playoff years.
