Should Benavidez secure a victory, he would hold the WBC, WBA, and WBO titles, leaving only the vacant IBF championship for him to pursue full unification. This quest has been influenced by Jai Opetaia's recent loss of the IBF title.
The IBF championship is now set to be contested between Floyd Masson and David Nyika on August 8th. Viddal Riley is also positioned to challenge the winner of that bout. While winning any fourth belt will solidify Benavidez's place in boxing history, the achievement might carry less weight without a victory over the previously dominant Opetaia.
