Top seed Ben Shelton's run at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship concluded unexpectedly in the quarter-finals. He was defeated by World No. 83 Thiago Agustin Tirante, marking Shelton's third upset loss this month. Tirante secured the victory with a 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 scoreline, capitalizing on crucial break points.
Shelton, who had previously dealt with illness, took a medical timeout during the second set for treatment on his neck and upper back.
