Bellinger joined the Yankees last offseason from the Cubs, who also sent $5 million to cover part of his contract. He opted out of his contract in November, foregoing a $25 million salary for the upcoming season to pursue free agency. The Yankees had offered him a new five-year deal worth at least $30 million annually.
However, Bellinger, represented by agent Scott Boras, is reportedly seeking a contract with more years and a higher average annual value. Last season, he posted a .272 batting average with 29 home runs and 98 RBIs, playing extensively across the outfield and at first base for New York.
