Bears Tackle Battle Intensifies as Benedet Emerges in Joint Practice
15 Aug
Summary
- Undrafted tackle Theo Benedet impresses in Bears' left tackle competition
- Edge rusher Joey Bosa's aggressive play leads to skirmishes in joint practice
- Bears defense holds its own against Bills' high-powered offense

On August 15, 2025, the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills held a joint practice, providing an opportunity to evaluate the Bears' ongoing left tackle competition. Undrafted second-year player Theo Benedet has emerged as a contender, impressing the coaching staff with his performance on both the left and right sides of the offensive line.
The practice was not without its chippy moments, as Bills edge rusher Joey Bosa's aggressive play led to several skirmishes. Bosa was involved in a play where he threw a forearm into Bears quarterback Caleb Williams' chest and shoved him back, drawing no flag from the officials. The Bears' offensive line did not retaliate, instead accepting the punishment.
Despite the physical play, the Bears' defense held its own against the Bills' high-powered offense. Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds intercepted his former Bills teammate, Josh Allen, while safety Jaquan Brisker also recorded an interception. Defensive tackle Gervon Dexter also made his presence felt, swatting down two of Allen's passes.

The Bears' offense, however, struggled at times, with penalties and inconsistent play. Tight end Colston Loveland dropped a pass in the red zone, and the team had to deal with back-to-back false starts during a two-minute drill that ended in a touchdown.
As the Bears continue to evaluate their options at left tackle, Benedet's performance has made the competition more intriguing. The team is determined to find their starting five offensive linemen before the season opener, but they are not afraid to make changes if the initial lineup does not perform up to par.
