Bears QB Caleb Williams Impresses in Intense Training Camp Practice
6 Aug
Summary
- Williams had a "sharper" practice, completing 4 of 5 passes
- Threw a 40-yard TD pass, one of his longest completions in camp
- Offense still struggling with pre-snap penalties, a focus for head coach

On August 6th, 2025, the Chicago Bears held their 12th training camp practice, and all eyes were on quarterback Caleb Williams as he continues to adapt to the team's new offense under head coach Ben Johnson.
Williams, who is entering his second season after a rocky rookie year, had a strong showing during the session, particularly in 7-on-7 drills. According to reports, he completed 4 out of 5 passes, including an "anticipatory out route" to receiver DJ Moore. The highlight of the day, however, was a 40-yard touchdown pass to receiver Rome Odunze down the left sideline, one of Williams' longest completions in team drills this summer.
The Bears' offense also found success in other areas, with Williams connecting with tight end Cole Kmet on a play-action pass on fourth down. Overall, the daily progress in Williams' development is evident, as he "delivered throws on time and was accurate, looking sharp out there."
However, the Bears' offense is still dealing with some lingering issues, primarily pre-snap penalties. During Tuesday's practice, the team committed multiple penalties, including several delay of game infractions. This is an area that head coach Ben Johnson has emphasized needs to be cleaned up, as the Bears had "three in a span of seven plays" during the session.
Despite the pre-snap struggles, the practice was described as the Bears' most physical of the summer, with Williams getting in on the intensity and "letting the defense know" after a touchdown by running back Roschon Johnson.
