Cincinnati Football Ditches Country Camp for State-of-Art Facility

The Cincinnati Bearcats football team commences its preseason training camp on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, ushering in a new era by utilizing the Sheakley Indoor Performance Facility. This marks the first time in 27 years that the team will not train at the secluded Camp Higher Ground in Indiana. The $134 million on-campus facility offers advanced technology, spacious training areas, and enhanced recovery options like cryo chambers and hot and cold tubs.

This strategic shift is projected to save the UC athletics program approximately $250,000 previously spent on off-site stays. Head coach Satterfield and athletic director John Cunningham highlighted the facility's superior resources for athlete care and preparation. Select outdoor practices will still be held at Nippert Stadium, including an open practice on August 8th with a fan pancake breakfast. The team aims to build upon last year's seven-win season, with a strong focus on protecting their home field and finishing seasons decisively, as they compete for Big 12 championships with a roster featuring 44 new student-athletes.
