Summary

- New funding includes €300 million in project finance debt.
- The club will play at Olympic Stadium during final renovation phases.
Barcelona is pursuing new debt financing to manage the rising expenses of their Camp Nou stadium renovation. Club members recently sanctioned an additional €510 million to finalize the project and address revenue gaps. This financing is split into two key components.
The first element involves €300 million in project finance debt, structured through a securitization fund and repaid from future Camp Nou revenues, particularly from new VIP hospitality areas. This funding is specifically earmarked for construction work and is secured against stadium income rather than club assets. Talks with potential investors have been initiated, with Goldman Sachs reportedly involved in these discussions.
Separately, Barcelona has arranged up to €210 million in senior debt, issued as media notes and secured against future television rights from LaLiga and UEFA competitions. This tranche aims to cover a cash-flow deficit caused by project delays that have affected revenue projections. It is planned to be issued in two €105 million installments, with one already placed in July and the second expected before the end of 2026.
Work on the Camp Nou, which began in 2023, is now projected to conclude by the 2028-29 season, with an original completion date of 2026. The renovation includes extending the stadium's roof and increasing capacity to 105,000. During the latter stages of construction, Barcelona will temporarily relocate to the Olympic Stadium in Montjuic, with an anticipated return to Camp Nou in January 2028, though this could occur sooner. Club officials cited global economic trends and supply chain issues, exacerbated by the conflict in Ukraine, as reasons for the increased costs and delays.
