Barcelona Offloads Young Talent to Raise Funds Amid Salary Cap Woes
19 Aug
Summary
- Barcelona generates €45M in sales, including €20M from Trincao deal
- Club looking to free up senior registrations by offloading Pena, Romeu
- Dani Rodriguez set for permanent move as Barca Atletic relegated

As Barcelona continues to grapple with salary cap issues, the club has found a way to bring in close to €45 million in sales this summer. Over €20 million of that figure has come from sell-on fees and selling on rights, particularly in the case of Francisco Trincao.
The exits of Inaki Pena and Oriol Romeu are seen as key to registering new signings Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martin, and Roony Bardghji. Uncertainty also remains over the future of Hector Fort, and further sales appear necessary for Barcelona to balance their books.
One such departure is that of young winger Dani Rodriguez. The 20-year-old was keen to play at a higher level this season, with Barca Atletic now in the fourth tier. It seems a permanent move is on the cards, with Valencia and Rayo Vallecano both showing interest, though Celta Vigo is poised to win the battle for his signature. The deal will include a buyback option for Barcelona, depending on Rodriguez's performances.
Rodriguez's departure is the latest example of Barcelona cashing in on their young talent, with limited opportunities in the first team. Other players like Pablo Torre, Alex Valle, Sergi Dominguez, and Noah Darvich have also moved on this summer, though Barcelona have retained options or sell-on fees on them.
