Barca's Pacifico Faces Setback, Loan Extension Talks Underway

Barcelona is in talks to extend the loan of young defender Patricio Pacifico, who suffered a severe knee injury. The 20-year-old Uruguayan left-back sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in April 2026 while playing for Barca Atletic. This injury is expected to sideline him for 8-9 months, casting uncertainty on his potential permanent transfer to the club.

Despite the setback, Barcelona officials are keen to keep Pacifico within their medical department during his recovery. Discussions are reportedly underway with his parent club, Defensor Sporting, for a loan extension. This would allow Pacifico to continue his rehabilitation under Barcelona's care.

The club hopes to finalize the agreement before the end of the current season. If successful, Pacifico would be on track to return to action at the beginning of 2027. This return would provide him with the second half of the 2027 season to demonstrate his capabilities and earn a long-term contract.

Pacifico is currently awaiting surgery, which has been delayed due to swelling in his knee. The club is committed to supporting him through this challenging period.
