Monza's Gustavo Varela has emerged as a transfer target for several top European clubs, including Barcelona. Since joining Monza in the summer from Benfica, Varela has enjoyed a remarkable start to the 2026-27 season, scoring nine goals in nine Serie A appearances.
His goal-scoring exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona now reportedly joining Arsenal and Napoli in the race for his signature. Despite Benfica possessing a first refusal clause and a 20% sell-on percentage, Varela's market value has skyrocketed. Originally costing €2 million plus variables, his transfer fee is now being discussed in the range of €40-50 million.
While Barcelona's immediate focus is on strengthening their defense, the potential acquisition of a promising striker like Varela could be a strategic move for the Catalan club.
