Bangladesh Eyes WTC Final Amidst West Indies Test Series
27 Oct
Summary
- Bangladesh aims for WTC final by winning at least four of six matches.
- Captain Shanto stresses immediate focus on the West Indies Test series.
- Bangladesh has won two of eleven test series against the West Indies.
Bangladesh's Test squad is being directed by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to prioritize the upcoming series against the West Indies, which commences on Wednesday. This focus is critical despite their current fourth-place standing in the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) standings. To keep hopes of a first WTC final appearance alive, Bangladesh must secure wins in at least four of their remaining six matches and draw one. Their recent performance cycle includes three wins, two losses, and one draw, featuring a 2-0 series win over Pakistan and a notable victory against Australia.
Following the West Indies series, Bangladesh is scheduled for a two-Test tour in South Africa, concluding with two home Tests against England. Head coach Phil Simmons views the WTC final as a strong motivator for the squad. Historically, Bangladesh has a mixed record against the West Indies in Tests, winning two of eleven series and five out of twenty-two matches played between the two nations. The West Indies, currently eighth in the WTC standings, are playing their final series of the current cycle and have shown strong recent form.
