Bacio Eyes Redemption in Nunthorpe Stakes
21 Jun
Summary
- Bacio, a recent Royal Ascot winner, is being eyed for the Nunthorpe Stakes.
- Trainer Wesley Ward has finished second in the Nunthorpe twice previously.
- Bacio's recent five-furlong win was faster than the King Charles III Stakes.
Wesley Ward has identified the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes as a prime target for his promising three-year-old, Bacio, following the colt's impressive victory at Royal Ascot. Bacio's performance in the Palace of Holyroodhouse was a commanding display of front-running speed.
Ward has a history of success in the Nunthorpe, having trained the runner-up on two occasions with Acapulco and Lady Aurelia. He aims to finally claim the top prize.
Bacio's recent five-furlong win was notably faster than the Group One King Charles III Stakes, despite carrying more weight. While a race at Goodwood may come too soon for the horse, Ward is considering a trip to York for the Nunthorpe Stakes, allowing ample recovery time after the Royal meeting.
"He's great, he's come out of it really well," Ward stated, confirming his intentions. "We're going to look at the Nunthorpe next... that's the one we're leaning towards."
