20 Jan
Summary
- Top Australian players rested for Pakistan T20 series.
- New Big Bash League talents Beardman and Edwards receive call-ups.
- Focus shifts to World Cup preparation with key players joining squad in Sri Lanka.

Australia has announced a 17-player squad for their upcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan, commencing January 30 in Lahore. Notably, senior players Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Tim David have been omitted to focus on World Cup preparations.
These prominent cricketers will instead link up with the World Cup squad in Sri Lanka, where they will prepare for their league-stage opener against Ireland on February 11. The Pakistan series squad sees the inclusion of promising Big Bash League talents, including fast bowler Mahli Beardman and versatile player Jack Edwards, neither of whom have made their international debut yet.
Medical staff anticipate Hazlewood and David will be fit for the World Cup opener. However, a more cautious approach is being taken with Cummins, who is recovering from back stress fractures, with the aim of having him available for the latter stages of the tournament. All three matches against Pakistan are scheduled to be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
