ASU Tight End's Comeback After Broken Leg
5 Aug
Summary
- Anderson aims for a full return by conference play.
- He is a respected leader on the Tillman Leadership Council.
- His leadership extends to organizing team activities and FCA.

Arizona State tight end Khamari Anderson is on the path to recovery after suffering a broken tibia in April. He underwent surgery immediately following the injury, which occurred during spring practice. Anderson expressed relief that the injury did not happen during the season, allowing him ample time to heal.
While Anderson is back to some physical activity, he has not yet been fully cleared to play as the Sun Devils prepare for fall camp on August 5, 2026. Coach Kenny Dillingham anticipates a conservative return, possibly before conference play begins.
Anderson, in his second year with the program after transferring from Kentucky, brings valuable experience with 35 college games played. He has earned the respect of his peers, evidenced by his selection to the seven-player Tillman Leadership Council, highlighting his impactful, action-oriented leadership style.
Tight ends coach Jason Mohns praised Anderson's seamless transition into a leadership role, noting his great energy and ability to sense the team's needs. Anderson also leads the ASU chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
The Detroit native's goal for the season is to remain healthy and play for his teammates. Last season, he played in all 13 games, recording five catches for 24 yards and one touchdown. Mohns emphasized that for ASU's offense, which frequently uses "12 personnel" formations requiring strong blockers, well-rounded tight ends like Anderson are crucial.
Anderson's comfort extends to his teammates, including quarterback Cutter Boley and defensive end Jalen Thompson, both former teammates from Kentucky and high school, respectively. Coach Dillingham has observed significant growth in Anderson, both as a player and a person, particularly in his ability to lead and correct others.
