Houston Astros pitcher Enyel De Los Santos will miss the remainder of the regular season after being placed on the 15-day injured list with right knee tendinitis. This move comes just before Saturday's game against Atlanta. Logan VanWey has been recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land to join the active roster in De Los Santos's place.
De Los Santos has appeared in 66 games this season, the second-most among Astros relievers, pitching 71 ⅓ innings with a 4.79 ERA. His multi-inning outings have been particularly valuable. The team's bullpen depth is further challenged as key setup man Steven Okert remains sidelined with a right hamstring strain.
Manager Joe Espada indicated that Okert is progressing, throwing on flat ground, but has not yet resumed mound work. While the team hopes he can return to the mound this week, his availability for the regular season remains uncertain given the need for further bullpen sessions and drills. The Astros have eight regular-season games left and are currently tied with the Rangers for the AL West lead.
Van Wey has made five appearances for Houston this season, posting a 1.50 ERA and recording his first major-league win in June. He has a 5.12 ERA in 52 appearances at the Triple-A level.
