Aston Martin's partnership with engine supplier Honda has encountered difficulties at the start of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Team chief Mike Krack has reassured that no fundamental issues exist between Aston Martin and Honda, despite the AMR26 car's performance and reliability concerns, including engine vibrations impacting batteries and driver well-being.
Krack highlighted the strong relationship and respect shared with Honda, particularly during their home race at Suzuka. He acknowledged the significant work Honda has invested in addressing the current problems. Although the Japanese Grand Prix saw Aston Martin finish a race for the first time, driver Fernando Alonso finished 18th, significantly behind the points.
The team recognizes the "difficult situation" and is focused on extracting positives from recent months, having managed to complete races. Krack stressed that while reliability steps have been made, major performance gains are still needed. He stated that the team must use the upcoming break effectively to address these significant challenges, with a "big mountain to climb."
