Asha Sobhana Joins UP Warriorz for Rs 1.1 Crore

Asha Sobhana will play for the UP Warriorz in the upcoming Women's Premier League season after being secured for Rs 1.1 crore at the WPL Auction. This significant bid followed a competitive exchange between UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru also entering the fray. Sobhana's previous WPL seasons saw her emerge as a key player for RCB. In 2024, she scalped 12 wickets across 10 matches, boasting an economy rate of 7.11, and became the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament.

Her standout performance included a memorable 5-22 against UP Warriorz, marking her as the first Indian woman to achieve a five-wicket haul in the WPL. This feat highlighted her bowling prowess and cemented her status as a formidable leg-spinner. She was initially signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for Rs 10 lakh in the inaugural 2023 edition and was retained for the 2024 season.

Beyond her WPL success, Sobhana made her international debut for India on May 6, 2024, against Bangladesh. At 33 years and 51 days, she became the oldest Indian woman cricketer to represent her country. Her journey to international cricket underscores her dedication and perseverance in the sport.
