Arteta: Nwaneri's criticism could be career-maker
2 May
Summary
- Habib Beye demands more daily commitment from Nwaneri.
- Arteta sees Beye's criticism as a potential career boost.
- Marseille has dropped to sixth place in the standings.
Mikel Arteta has commented on criticism directed at Ethan Nwaneri by his loan manager, Habib Beye, suggesting it could ultimately be beneficial for the player's development.
Beye, who took over as manager at Marseille recently, has not started Nwaneri in any matches, with the player making his tenth consecutive appearance off the bench as of last weekend. Beye publicly stated that Nwaneri is a quality player but must offer more in terms of daily commitment.
Arteta acknowledged Beye's daily insight into Nwaneri's performance, stating that the loan manager's opinion is paramount. He expressed hope that Nwaneri will respond positively to the critique, drawing parallels to William Saliba's loan spell at the same club, which ultimately proved successful.
Marseille's current form has seen them slip to sixth in the league standings, jeopardizing their Champions League qualification hopes. With only three matches remaining, the team is under pressure to improve results, yet Nwaneri continues to feature as a late substitute.
The success of this loan experience hinges on Nwaneri's reaction to the challenges, according to Arteta. Marseille's next match is an away game against Nantes scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
