GymCats Bounce Back? New Staff Faces Big 12 Challenge

The Arizona GymCats are preparing for the upcoming season with a renewed focus on returning to national prominence. After a 2026 season that concluded with the team ranked 35th, a significant drop from the previous year's 16th-place finish, head coach John Court has overseen a substantial roster and coaching staff transformation.

Key departures through graduation, including Elizabeth LaRusso and Gianna Lenczner, necessitate replacing multiple routines. To fill these gaps, the GymCats are welcoming five freshmen and three transfers, including standout recruits Abba MacKinney and McCall McMullen, who are expected to contribute immediately.

The coaching staff also saw a major overhaul, with former assistant coaches departing. Strom, Ballard Clark, and Amato have been hired as assistants, with Court focusing on vault, Strom on floor, Ballard Clark on beam, and Amato on bars.

This period of change comes as the GymCats navigate the competitive Big 12 conference. Their first season in the league in 2025 was highly successful, but 2026 proved more challenging.
