Arizona Guards: New Era Dawns

Arizona's men's basketball program has significantly reshaped its backcourt for the upcoming season by adding four new guards. This influx includes transfers Derek Dixon and JJ Mandaquit, as well as freshmen Cameron Holmes and Caleb Holt. These additions are expected to collectively match or surpass the contributions of departed players.

Freshman Cameron Holmes, a highly-touted prospect and younger brother of NBA player DaRon Holmes, joined the team in November. Transfers Dixon from North Carolina and Mandaquit from Washington arrived in April, following their freshman seasons where they demonstrated potential.

Dixon averaged 6.5 points and 2.7 assists for UNC, while Mandaquit contributed 5.2 points and 3.2 assists for Washington. Dixon's transfer continues a trend, following Caleb Love's move from UNC to Arizona. He spoke positively about his transition, influenced by former teammate Henri Veesaar's recommendation.

Incoming player RJ Godfrey also discussed his fit with the team, emphasizing his learning from teammates like Dixon. Godfrey expressed his commitment to impacting the game, whether starting or coming off the bench. The team's first chance to compete will be in Lithuania against three international teams.
