Argentina's Hockey Coach Seeks Chennai Kitesurfing Break

Juan Ignacio Gilardi, head coach of Argentina's men's junior hockey team, has arrived in Chennai for the upcoming 2025 FIH Men's Junior Hockey World Cup. Gilardi, an avid kitesurfer, expressed a personal desire to find time for the sport during his stay in India. The team, known as 'Los Leoncitos', is determined to improve on their previous quarterfinal finish.

With six players returning from the last World Cup, Gilardi is optimistic about his team's medal prospects. He highlighted the squad's skill, power, and penalty corner specialists, alongside a strong goalkeeper. The team's preparation includes winning the Pan American championships with an undefeated record, though Gilardi acknowledges the World Cup will be a greater challenge.

Argentina, a two-time champion, is placed in Group C with New Zealand, Japan, and China. Gilardi remains cautiously confident about progressing to the quarterfinals, emphasizing the need to focus on their own game. The team is set to play practice matches against India, commencing on November 20, as part of their final preparations.
