Anthony's Homer Sparks Comeback Hope
19 Aug
Summary
- Roman Anthony hit a mammoth home run in his first rehab game.
- Trevor Story struggled, going 0-for-3 in his second rehab appearance.
- Justin Gonzales impressed in his Double-A debut with two hits.

Roman Anthony participated in his first baseball game since May 4th, marking his initial rehab appearance as he recovers from a partially torn ligament in his ring finger. Stepping up to the plate for the Double-A Sea Dogs, Anthony immediately made an impact, hitting a colossal home run in his first at-bat. He also singled sharply in another appearance and drew two walks, finishing his night 2-for-2 with four total times on base.
Interim manager Chad Tracy indicated that Anthony's status for the next day's game would depend on how he felt. Trevor Story, the veteran shortstop, was in his second Triple-A rehab game for the WooSox, but his performance was not as stellar. Story went hitless in three at-bats, striking out twice and lining out once, as the WooSox were no-hit until the seventh inning.
Justin Gonzales, the Red Sox' second-ranked prospect, made his Double-A debut after being called up from high-A Greenville. Batting leadoff, Gonzales reached base with singles in his first two at-bats and showed his power with a warning-track fly ball. He finished his debut 2-for-5 with a run scored in the Sea Dogs' 7-5 victory.
Franklin Arias, a top prospect, also played for the WooSox but had a quiet night, going 0-for-4 as the team struggled offensively. Story is scheduled to play again for the WooSox on Wednesday, joined by Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who will be making his first rehab appearance.
