Angels Seek Center Fielder Amid Outfield Depth Concerns

As of November 18, 2025, the Los Angeles Angels find themselves in a unique position regarding their outfield. While they have depth with the breakout performances of Taylor Ward and Jo Adell, the team lacks a true everyday center fielder after superstar Mike Trout was moved off the position last year.

Bryce Teodosio, who rated as an elite defender in center field, slashed just .203/.248/.304 with one homer in 150 plate appearances during his 50 games at the position. Despite some expected improvement from the 26-year-old, his high strikeout rate of 31.3% suggests he may not be ready to be a regular in center.

This has prompted the Angels to explore adding a center fielder to their outfield mix, which also includes Trout, Ward, Adell, and Jorge Soler. Trout, who sustained a bone bruise in his surgically repaired left knee last April, will not be returning to center field, as he spent the rest of the season as the designated hitter.

The Angels may look to move Soler, who is in the final year of his contract and dealt with back issues in the second half of the 2025 season. However, the team would likely have to eat a significant portion of his $16 million salary to get much of a return.

Alternatively, the Angels could explore trading either Ward or Adell, as both have garnered significant trade interest in the past. Ward is heading into his final year of team control, while Adell will be a free agent after the 2027 season. Both players offer impressive power, with Ward hitting 36 homers and 103 RBIs, and Adell hitting 37 homers and 98 RBIs in 2025.
