Almaty Open Kicks Off with ATP Tour Stars Battling Inspired Underdogs
13 Oct
Summary
- Bernard Tomic climbs ATP rankings, saves match point in Almaty qualifier
- Corentin Moutet and Gabriel Diallo among top seeds facing tricky first-round matches
- Luca Nardi and Amir Omarkhanov look to cause upsets against higher-ranked opponents

The 2025 Almaty Open is set to kick off on October 13th, and the first day of action promises to be a thrilling one. Several ATP Tour regulars, including the eighth-seeded Corentin Moutet and the seventh-seeded Gabriel Diallo, will be in action, but they will face stiff resistance from some inspired opponents.
Bernard Tomic, who has made a slow yet steady climb up the ATP rankings this year, is one such player to watch out for. The former World No. 17 saved a match point during his 3-6, 7-6(3), 7-6(6) victory against Marc-Andrea Huesler in the second-qualifying round on Sunday, indicating his newfound vigour.
Moutet, meanwhile, has dropped six of his last 12 matches and will be looking to make amends in Almaty, where he has never faced his Aussie opponent. Diallo, on the other hand, will be aiming to build on his maiden ATP singles title win at the Libema Open earlier this year, but his 17-year-old Kazakh opponent, Amir Omarkhanov, will be buoyed by local support and could cause some trouble.
Other formidable players like Fabian Marozsan, Luca Nardi, and James Duckworth will also be in action on the opening day of the ATP 250 tournament, setting the stage for a thrilling start to the Almaty Open.
