Alex Honnold Conquers World's Tallest Urban Free Solo

Alex Honnold recently completed a ropeless ascent of Taipei 101, an event broadcast globally by Netflix as Skyscraper Live. This climb is now believed to be the world's tallest urban free solo ascent, reaching a height of 1,667 feet.

Honnold expressed that he doesn't know the exact message viewers will take away, but hopes it serves as a reminder of finite time and the ability to achieve difficult goals through hard work. His wife, Sanni McCandless, highlighted the joy and fun he experiences while climbing.

The challenging ascent, which took over an hour and a half, involved three distinct sections of the skyscraper. Despite windy conditions at higher altitudes and feeling tired, Honnold successfully reached the summit, waving to the crowd and taking a celebratory selfie.

This event marked Honnold's first public free solo since many of his previous climbs were in remote locations. The crowd's audible reaction provided him with an unexpected energy, contributing to what felt like a celebration.
