Aldershot Owner Faces Huge Financial Losses
10 Apr
Summary
- Owner Deane Wood anticipates substantial financial losses.
- Playing budget cut by 85% for next season.
- Club faces monthly electricity bills of £4,500.

Aldershot Town's owner, Deane Wood, has revealed the club is facing substantial financial difficulties in the coming months and years. Wood, who took ownership just three months ago, stated that the club is projected to lose between £600,000 and £800,000 this year. Despite advice from investors to place the club into administration, Wood's commitment to the local area means he will continue to support it personally.
The financial challenges necessitate significant cutbacks, with the playing budget set to decrease by 85% for the next season, amounting to a £200,000 reduction. The club anticipates a further loss of £500,000 next season even with these austerity measures. To mitigate costs, the club is exploring ways to maximize stadium usage outside of matchdays and implement sensible savings, such as reducing energy consumption, with monthly electricity bills alone costing £4,500.
Wood acknowledged the precarious financial situation, stating that the club's current losses are unsustainable. While he believes Aldershot Town is likely safe from relegation this season due to a degree of luck, he cautioned that their fortunate position cannot be relied upon indefinitely. Decisions regarding player retention and departures for the next season will be made in consultation with new boss John Coleman.
