Alabama RB Crowell's Status Uncertain for Opener

Alabama's season opener faces uncertainty regarding five-star freshman running back EJ Crowell's availability. Coach Kalen DeBoer indicated on Friday that Crowell's participation is still undecided, emphasizing the need for him to be fully ready and confident.

Crowell, who reclassified after winning Mr. Football, has been hampered by ankle injuries since the spring and missed camp scrimmages. His potential impact on revitalizing the Crimson Tide's running game is significant, but his absence would elevate other backs like Daniel Hill and Trae'shawn Brown.

In other injury news, freshman safety Jireh Edwards is expected to return in a couple of weeks following surgery for an arm injury sustained in practice. While Edwards was contributing to defense and special teams, his absence is not anticipated to be lengthy.

Several other key players, including running back AK Dear, receiver Noah Rogers, cornerback Jorden Edmonds, and defensive lineman Jeremiah Beaman, are also unavailable. Beaman is out for the season, but Dear is projected to return by game five or six. Rogers is progressing ahead of schedule, and Edmonds is expected back later in the season.

Despite these absences, Coach DeBoer expressed optimism about the team's overall health compared to the previous year, where many players dealt with lingering injuries. The team has managed to conduct high-intensity camp practices, building stamina and competitiveness.
