Alabama Coordinator Eager to Name Starting QB Before Season

As of July 31, 2025, Alabama's offensive coordinator, Bill Grubb, is eager to name the team's starting quarterback before the upcoming season. Grubb spoke highly of the three quarterbacks competing for the job - Ty Simpson, Austin Mack, and Keelon Russell - and the progress they have made in the months leading up to fall camp.

However, Grubb made it clear that he would like a decision on the starting QB "yesterday." He acknowledged that the process must be allowed to play out, as Alabama has been through this before. Grubb said the coaching staff has a detailed plan to evaluate the quarterbacks and determine the starter when the time is right.

After spring football, Grubb indicated that if Alabama were to play a game "tomorrow," Simpson, the redshirt junior, would be the starting quarterback. Grubb stated that Simpson must maintain this mentality consistently if he wants to be named the full-time starter.

Wide receiver Germie Bernard expressed that it doesn't matter to him when a starting quarterback is named, as long as the team can execute at a high level, regardless of which QB is in the game. Bernard believes all three quarterbacks are capable of leading the Crimson Tide to victory.

As Alabama prepares for their season opener against Florida State, the competition for the starting quarterback position remains ongoing.
