The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has announced its 2026 competition calendar, which includes crucial selection trials for upcoming major international events.
The National Senior Athletics Federation Competition, scheduled for May 22-25 in Ranchi, will be the final opportunity for athletes to qualify for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Glasgow, Scotland. This event also serves as a qualification pathway for the Asian U23 Athletics Championships.
India's participation in the 23rd Commonwealth Games, running from July 23 to August 2, will be restricted to a maximum of 32 athletes, including 16 women, as per the organizing committee's protocol.
For the Asian Games, slated to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships will be the ultimate selection trial. This event is set to take place in Bhubaneswar from June 24-28.
Additionally, the AFI will send a national team to the World Relays in Botswana in May. Selection trials for this event will occur during the third National Open Relay Competition on March 28 in Chandigarh, which is also expected to feature foreign competitors.
