Afghanistan has unveiled its 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The selection also includes Shahidullah Kamal and Mohammad Ishaq, while young pacer Abdullah Ahmadzai earns a place.
Preparations for the tournament will include a three-match T20I series against the West Indies in the UAE, scheduled from January 19 to 22. This series will serve as vital practice for the squad, aiming to fine-tune their combinations. Afghanistan's CEO expressed optimism for improved results in the tournament, emphasizing the advantage of playing in Asian conditions.
The team is placed in Pool D alongside New Zealand, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada. Their World Cup campaign begins on February 8 in Chennai against New Zealand. This follows Afghanistan's historic semi-final appearance in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
