Ace Garrett Crochet Leads Boston Red Sox Resurgence
6 Aug
Summary
- Red Sox on 7-game winning streak after slow start
- Pitcher Garrett Crochet emerging as "bona fide ace"
- Crochet's strong performance a key factor in Red Sox's turnaround

In the opening months of the 2025 season, the Boston Red Sox struggled with consistency, leading many to write them off. However, the nine-time World Series champions have been on a tear since, winning their last seven games and becoming one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball.
A key factor in the Red Sox's resurgence has been the presence of "bona fide ace" Garrett Crochet, who was acquired by the team in the offseason. Crochet, who enjoyed a strong 2024 campaign with the Chicago White Sox, has delivered on the hype and perhaps even exceeded it this season. With a 13-4 record, a 2.24 ERA, and 183 strikeouts, Crochet has been one of the frontrunners for the AL Cy Young award, along with Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers.
The Red Sox's offense has also been firing on all cylinders, but according to MLB insider Jared Diamond, Crochet's dominance has given the team an edge. "If you have a bona fide ace, like Garrett Crochet, it essentially guarantees you don't end up on those really long tail-spin losing streaks," Diamond said.
