Judge's Elbow Heals: Ready for WBC & Gold Glove Bid?
29 Jan
Summary
- Aaron Judge recovered well from a 2025 elbow injury.
- He is ahead of schedule for the World Baseball Classic.
- Judge's elite defense has been consistently overlooked.
Aaron Judge has made a remarkable recovery from the right flexor strain he sustained in his throwing arm during the 2025 season. The injury, which initially caused concern for the New York Yankees organization, required no surgery and has not hampered his preparation for the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
As captain of Team USA, Judge's progress has impressed manager Aaron Boone. Boone reported that Judge's throwing program is advanced due to WBC preparations, indicating he is in excellent form. This update is particularly welcome given the Yankees' struggles in 2023 when Judge missed significant time.
Beyond his powerful hitting, Judge's defensive prowess in right field has been exceptional. In the most recent season, he recorded 4 Outs Above Average and a 2 Arm Value, metrics placing him in the 80th percentile or higher. Despite these consistent elite defensive performances, he has been notably absent from Gold Glove award considerations, a situation many find perplexing given his sustained excellence on the field.
