An eight-year-old boy named Benji has successfully completed the challenging Welsh 3000s mountain route in Eryri, also known as Snowdonia. He finished the demanding 32-mile (50km) trek, which includes 15 summits and nearly 4,000m (13,000ft) of ascent, in an impressive 15 hours and 58 minutes. Benji was motivated by raising funds for the mountain rescue organization.
His mother, Toni Howden, an outdoor instructor, expressed initial nervousness but highlighted the crucial support of experienced volunteers. The community effort included friends providing food and encouragement. Benji endured significant fatigue, resting only about two hours during the entire challenge. His successful completion has led to him raising over £1,800 for Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue.
Benji has already set his sights on future challenges, including climbing Mont Blanc and completing the Paddy Buckley Round in Eryri. The Welsh 3000s involves climbing all 15 mountains in Eryri that exceed 3,000 feet within a 24-hour period.
