49ers Receiver Corps in Disarray Ahead of 2024 Season
19 Jul
Summary
- Deebo Samuel traded to Washington Commanders
- Brandon Aiyuk out with torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus
- Jauan Jennings demanding raise and extension or trade

In November 2024, the San Francisco 49ers are set to face significant challenges in their wide receiver corps. The team's star receiver, Deebo Samuel, was traded to the Washington Commanders earlier this year, leaving a significant void in the offense.
Adding to the 49ers' woes, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has not yet returned from a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus, and the team has placed him on the Physically Unable to Perform List. Aiyuk is expected to miss all of training camp and potentially the first few games of the 2024 season.
Another receiver, Ricky Pearsall, has also been placed on the PUP List due to a hamstring injury he's been dealing with throughout the offseason. It's unclear if the 49ers will activate him before the start of training camp.
Meanwhile, Jauan Jennings, another key receiver, is demanding a raise and an extension or a trade from the 49ers. The team has not yet met his demands, which could lead to Jennings "holding in" during training camp.
With these significant issues at the wide receiver position, the 49ers are left with limited options. Jacob Cowing, who has just four career catches, and rookie Jordan Watkins are currently the top receivers on the depth chart. The team's passing game could be in serious trouble if they don't find a way to address these problems before the start of the 2024 season.
