49ers' Kicking Woes Solved as Pineiro Shines with Perfect Start
26 Oct
Summary
- 49ers moved on from Jake Moody after poor start, signed Eddy Pineiro
- Pineiro has made all 17 field goals this season, including 5 from 50+ yards
- 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan impressed with Pineiro's performance

In the lead-up to the 2025 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers faced a kicking conundrum. Their lone option, Jake Moody, had struggled the previous year, making just 70.6% of his field goals and 97% of his extra points. This lack of confidence in Moody's abilities was evident in Week 1, when he missed two of his three attempts, prompting the 49ers to quickly make a change.
Between Weeks 1 and 2, the 49ers signed Eddy Pineiro off the street, and the move has proven to be a game-changer for the team. As of October 26th, 2025, Pineiro has made all 17 of his field goal attempts, including an impressive 5 from 50 yards or more. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted that he did not expect Pineiro to perform this well, stating, "He hasn't missed one yet except for his first extra point. So, I wouldn't count that. He said he hit every field goal except for one extra point. That definitely gives me a lot of confidence."
