49ers Waive Kicker Jake Moody After Costly Misses
9 Sep
Summary
- 49ers waive kicker Jake Moody after missed field goals
- Moody missed a 27-yard FG and had a 36-yard attempt blocked
- 49ers reportedly bringing in Eddy Piñeiro and Greg Joseph for workouts

On September 9, 2025, the San Francisco 49ers announced that they have waived kicker Jake Moody, just one week into the new NFL season. Moody's struggles during the 49ers' 17-13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 have led to his dismissal.
During the game, Moody missed a 27-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter and later had a 36-yard kick blocked. Both of these failed attempts would have tied the game for the 49ers. After the missed kicks, reports indicate that players on the 49ers' sideline were "ticked off" and two helmets were thrown in frustration.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan initially expressed confidence in Moody, saying there was "no question" about the kicker's place on the roster. However, Shanahan changed his tune the following day, opening the door for a potential replacement.

The 49ers are now reportedly bringing in Eddy Piñeiro and veteran Greg Joseph for workouts this week, as they search for a more reliable kicker. Moody, a 2023 third-round pick out of Michigan, had a solid rookie season, making 21 out of 24 field goals. But his struggles date back to 2024 when he went just 24 for 34 from field goal range, including only 10 out of 20 from at least 40 yards.
