41-Year-Old Tight End Marcedes Lewis Joins Broncos Practice Squad
29 Oct
Summary
- 41-year-old Marcedes Lewis signs with Broncos practice squad
- Lewis has played in 295 NFL games, including playoffs
- Broncos seeking experienced tight end after injuries to Adkins and Krull

On October 29, 2025, the Denver Broncos announced that they have signed 41-year-old tight end Marcedes Lewis to their practice squad. Lewis, a first-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006, is set to participate in his 20th NFL season if he is elevated to the active roster.
The Broncos were in need of a blocking tight end after losing Nate Adkins to a knee injury and having Lucas Krull on injured reserve with a foot injury. Lewis, who stands at 6 foot 6 and 247 pounds, has carved out a career as a reliable blocker in the latter stages of his career, though he was once a productive receiver, making the Pro Bowl in 2010 when he caught 10 touchdown passes.
While Lewis has caught 437 passes for 5,115 yards and 40 touchdowns over his career, he has focused more on his blocking duties in recent years, saying "I don't get the targets, I'm not running downfield, nor do I care about that. For me, I'm here to abuse guys at the point of contact in the run game, in a pass-protection game."
The Broncos have been evaluating the tight end market even before the injuries, and Lewis' wealth of experience makes him an attractive addition to their roster as they look to bolster their depth at the position.
