On October 29, 2025, former India captain Rohit Sharma achieved a historic milestone by becoming the oldest player to reach the No. 1 position in the ICC ODI batting rankings. At 38 years and 182 days old, Rohit moved up two places to claim the top spot, replacing Indian captain Shubman Gill.
Rohit's ascent to the number one position came on the back of his impressive performances in the recent ODI series against Australia. In the second ODI at Adelaide Oval on October 23, he scored 73 runs from 97 balls, followed by an unbeaten 121 runs from 125 balls in the third match at Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25.
