FIFA Bans Water Bottles at 2026 World Cup
4 Jun
Summary
- Reusable water bottles are now banned in 2026 World Cup stadiums.
- FIFA cites safety concerns for prohibiting bottles, cups, and cans.
- Hydration stations will be available for fans amid heat concerns.

Fans attending the 2026 World Cup will be prohibited from bringing reusable water bottles into venues, according to a recent update to FIFA's stadium code of conduct. This decision, effective from Tuesday, reverses a previous allowance for empty, transparent plastic bottles up to 1 litre.
FIFA stated the ban on bottles, cups, jars, and cans is to prevent injuries from thrown objects. The organization emphasized its commitment to player and fan safety, noting that outside bottles are already prohibited at many venues for safety reasons.
This ruling has sparked concern among supporters, particularly regarding high temperatures expected at some venues, with forecasts ranging from 26 to 28 degrees Celsius. FIFA plans to mitigate these conditions through measures such as hydration stations, misting stations, and cooling tents.
The 48-team tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
