College Football's Top QBs: Who Reigns Supreme in 2026?

As the 2026 college football season approaches and the spring transfer portal window closes, projections for starting quarterbacks are becoming clearer. Sports Illustrated is set to release its anticipated rankings for every Power 4 starting quarterback, alongside notable Group of 6 signal-callers. These projections include a confidence meter to gauge the certainty of each projected starter.

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) presents a compelling quarterback outlook for 2026. Several teams are engaged in intense quarterback competitions that are anticipated to continue through fall camp. Notable situations include Alabama, where Jalen Russell appears to be the frontrunner over Austin Mack, and Arkansas, where Taylen Jackson competes with AJ Hill.

Transfers are also a significant factor in the 2026 quarterback picture. Former South Florida standout Liam Brown is expected to lead the Tigers under new coach Alex Golesh, while Devin Leary aims to make an impact at Kentucky after a stint at Arizona State. Other key figures include Texas's Arch Manning, who showed significant improvement in the latter half of the 2025 season, and Oklahoma's Dillon Gabriel, who is crucial to their playoff aspirations.

While many starting positions seem settled, uncertainties remain. Georgia's Carson Beck is considered essential for their national title hopes, and Tennessee faces a critical decision between veteran George MacIntyre and freshman Julian Brandon. The dynamic nature of these quarterback battles promises an exciting college football season.
